How to Remove and Install T500 & W500 CPU Cooling Fan?

Lenovo ThinkPad T500 W500 has 3 different radiator fan because of different graphics cards, which are 45N5492 45N5493 or 45N5490 45N5491 or 42X5114 42X4776 MCF-224PAM05. But the laptop heat sink fan replacement process is the same, because of the same laptop internal structure.

Note: In the notebook removing process, the first thing to do is to remove the battery, thus avoiding dangerous live working for individuals and machines.

The same as the other Lenovo ThinkPad T series machines, the main work of dismantling the fan is demolished C shell, keyboard and U frame, T500 and W500 is no exception.

Step 1: We should remove these screws as the following picture:

Step 2: Remove the C Shell ( Also called palm rest or C cover ). Please pay attention to the connector cable at the back of C shell.

Step 3: Remove the Keyboard.

Step 4: Remove the U Frame.

  • Then you can see the fan directly.
  • You must first remove the left speaker, and removed stainless fixture and screws on the fan, for removing the fan, these steps are easy for most people.
  • The installation of T500 fan is opposite to the remove process.
